Every news article that enters Barebone's system receives an AI-generated market impact score from 0 to 10:

- 7-8 (Orange/High Impact): Important sector-level events. Regulatory changes, major product launches, analyst upgrades/downgrades of large-cap stocks, economic data surprises.
- 5-6 (Yellow/Moderate): Relevant but not urgent. Industry trend pieces, smaller company earnings, analyst commentary, economic preview articles.
- 3-4 (Green/Low Impact): Background information. Feature stories, interview pieces, routine corporate announcements.
The scoring considers:
- The magnitude of the event (a $50B merger is more impactful than a $500M one)
- The breadth of market participants affected
- The deviation from expectations (a surprise is more impactful than expected news)
- The timing (during market hours vs. overnight)
- Historical precedent (how did similar events move markets in the past?)
Affected Stocks Identification
For every article, the AI identifies all stocks that could be affected and tags each with:
- Ticker symbol and company name
- Direction: Bullish, Bearish, or Neutral
- Expandable rationale - a brief explanation of WHY this stock is affected and in which direction
This goes beyond the obvious. An article about a new FDA drug approval doesn't just tag the approving company - it identifies:
- The company that received approval (bullish)
- Competitors whose drugs are now disadvantaged (bearish)
- Supply chain partners who will see increased demand (bullish)

Every article includes a "Dig Deeper" button that generates AI-powered follow-up questions specific to that news story. Tapping any question opens a full Research session with the news context pre-loaded.
